Belief Statement
Every child deserves a comprehensive, holistic education taught to them in a way they can understand and learn from, and no child deserves to come home from school in tears because their school is not meeting this basic need.
Parents have a right to be involved in their children's education. Our community needs to have a variety of schools practicing a variety of philosophies and teaching methods for families to choose from, and clearly addressing their questions, comments, concerns, and other forms of feedback needs to be a top priority for ACSD1 employees at every level.
Teachers are the people who work with Albany County's children five days a week for 3/4 of the year. Therefore, they have a deep understanding of what their students need, and they ought to be able to adjust their lessons to fit those needs, as well as be involved in all decisions that affect their school.
Educating our community's children is a team effort, and everybody involved in this process (district administrators, the Board of Trustees, teachers, parents and families, and students themselves) needs to work together in a spirit of good faith and cooperation, which involves open conversation and working to understand and respect each other's needs and priorities.
