The Lab School
While I am equally dedicated to and passionate about every school and every student in Albany County, the Lab School is in a precarious situation that warrants extra support and commitment. The school is operated by Albany County School District 1 on land owned by the University of Wyoming, and since this partnership started at turn of the century, an agreement has been made between them every few years regarding the use of the university's building. The contract came up for renewal in 2023, and unlike previous years, negotiations have not been successful. This May, UW decided to extend the agreement for one year, after which the Lab School will need to move to a new, off-campus location. If a suitable location is not found within one year, or the district and UW are unable to agree on the terms of the one year extension by the start of the school year, the school will be put in a position where closing down after 137 years of serving Laramie's students may be the only option.
This outcome is not something I am willing to accept. The Lab School is my alma mater (the picture on this page is my 7th grade volleyball team portrait), and the thought of the current and future generations of students not having access to the type of education that empowered me to be the woman I am today breaks my heart. Therefore, I stand with the numerous Albany County residents who want this beloved institution to remain open and am already doing everything in my power to make this happen. If I am elected, I will continue to work towards ensuring the Lab School's future is secure well into the future!
